A Good Day!! 09/20/2011

In math, Grade 6 students had a formative assessment to see if they were understanding pttern concepts.  Excellent job by all students.  In language we worked on learning how to peer edit each others work, and during Independent reading time all students are demonstrating their understanding of "good fit" books in their selections.  Our mathletics update has seen 4 more students achiev Bronze level certificates to make our class total 7 and we haven't completed our first week.  One student finished last week in the top 100 students in Canada with a final week rank of 74, and this week we have seen another student rise to 21st in Cananda.  Let's all hope that they both can keep up theis achievement and see more of their classmates reach the same levels of success.  Geography class today was short, but students work hard on undestanding the different communities: rural settlements, urban settlements and suburban settlements.  Tomorrow they will put their understanding to a task by researching communities online.

Mathletics 09/17/2011

Mathletics online math computer program was launched FRIDAY with active participation and excitement by all students in the computer lab.  The program is designed to assist student's in improving their basic math skills and  provide them opportunities to perform tasks from the Ontario curriculum including EQAO type questions.  As students compete live with other students from around the world they amass points which open other levels of opportunity.  As an immediate success story, one of our Aberarder students currently sits in the Top 100 for this week for all of the Canadian students using the program.  I would say that is a pretty great start in less than 24 hours of operation!!!!!  I can"t wait to report about more successes from our class as well as from the students of Mrs. Vaughan's 2/3 class and Mr. Lockhart,s 3/4 class.  Go Wolves!!!!
